Product Description

New and improved, the Rüster Sports Armored Hen House comes in two styles of camouflage. Pick from either ACU Digital Camo, or the Real Woods Camo bags. V3 now sports a 340-degree zipper making it easier to pack and unpack your bike and wheels inside the protected bags.

Traveling with your bike can be expensive and a hassle. The Armored Hen House helps solve both of these problems by fitting your bicycle and wheels into two easily manageable bags that avoid excess baggage fees with airlines. This can save you up to $300 each trip. Small enough to fit in the back of a taxi in Europe, and strong enough to protect your bike – this is the ultimate bike travel case.

The hybrid hard case features a lining of high density polyethylene armor in the walls for incredible protection. The addition of luggage wheels and a pull handle makes traveling with your bike even easier. But what makes the Armored Hen House case revolutionary is that it meets the dimensional requirements for standard checked luggage – which means you save money every time you fly with it.

The frame and wheel bags fit nicely on the conveyer belt and will come out with regular checked luggage upon arrival at your destination. Special handling is not required for the Armored Hen House, helping you avoid excess luggage fees.

The frame bag holds the complete bicycle frame with handlebars and fork removed. The interior pocket of the frame bag accommodates pedals, seat post, saddle, and other small accessories. The Armored Hen House will accommodate most bikes (XS-L), but will not fit some bikes with an integrated seat post. XL frame sizes will typically fit in the Armored Hen House with the removal of the crank.

The Armored Hen House is compatible with most triathlon, road and mountain bikes. Watch the packing instructional video or download the instruction manual for more details.

I recently picked up the Armored Hen House. Took it on a trip to Spain. Worked great – no oversize baggage fees. In fact on the return I think the agent was so confused that she even forgot to charge me a 2nd bag fee. I practiced packing the bike a couple times before I left, which I recommend given it should improve your packing speed.

When I got home I noticed one of the wheels seemed to be coming off the bag. I shot an email off to the Company and they said just send the bag in and they would fix it. I sent it in and it was fixed and returned promptly with the wheel firmly riveted back onto the bag. Couldn’t have asked for better service. I’m looking forward to my next trip in the next few days.

Having used a variety of other bike bags, I highly recommend the Armored Hen House and am glad I found it.

This is a great bag, very well made and easy to pack. It has already saved me a pile of money, and will continue to do so as long as airlines retain their current baggage policies.

The only downfall is that it is bright, eye catching and has a huge “sports” logo on the side. I’ve flown with it a number of times now. Every time at least one agent has looked it over, read the logo, and figured out it was a bike, leading to an argument over baggage charges. As mentioned, Southwest and United currently allow this bag without excess fees, however both of these airlines have tried to charge me the fee. I now travel with a copy of the airline baggage policy in the case. This case should be solid black, with no eye-catching colors, logos or writing. I absolutely love the case, but I could do without the 10 minute baggage fee discussion every time I fly.

In my best-laid plans for an out-of-town race, I set aside the evening before departure for a calm packing session. Usually, though, the chaos of getting out of town blows away the best-laid plans. That was me this week: working until midnight the two days before departure. Today saw me rushing home from work at 11:06am to pack. I needed to be out the door by 1:15pm for a 1:30pm meeting before my 4:50pm flight. I figured it would take me an hour+ just to take apart my bike and pack it into the Hen House I had borrowed from a friend. Not so: I was zipping the bag in just 27 minutes at 11:33 am! All of a sudden I was ahead of schedule and even able to fit in a 2000 meter swim before my 1:30 meeting.

This is a terrific product — I’m sold!

I used my new Hen House for the first time during a summer trip to France. I avoided all over-sized baggage fees that my buddies paid for with their huge bike boxes. Plus, it was the very first bag to come off the regular baggage carousel while my buddies waited 30+ minutes for their boxes. Kind of funny after they had been giving me a hard time about the bag.

I purchased the armored hen house for my first travel race, and was very happy with the results. As advertised, no airline fees, plus it had plenty of room for extra gear (shoes, wetsuit, helmet…). I was concerned the wheel bag wouldn’t have enough space for my tubeless 29ers, but I was able to fit them fine while keeping my rims sealed (granted I reduced the pressure a bit). Transportability is a snap with the wheels on the main case. The extra step of taking the fork off is very easy, and this step is well worth it relative to other cases, as that is really what enables the small size and avoidance of airline fees (plus gives me a good excuse to clean out my headset).

Have been using the Armored Hen House bike case for nearly a year and it works as advertised! Never an extra charge on domestic or international flights – the case paid for itself quickly. Sometimes the airlines ask if it’s a bike and I say yes but the case was specifically made to be within the size limits for that airline’s checked luggage. Never a problem after that. Only one actually measured the bike case and then said it was ok to check as regular luggage. I don’t overload the case so it’s easy to pop up on the scale. The rugged design protects my bike very well. Plenty of padding. Quality materials and construction. It does take me a while to carefully pack and unpack my bike but I’m getting faster with each trip.

Just returned from an event that required air travel. Had questioned Rüster about the Armored Hen House. Ethan was VERY responsive. The reviews were very helpful. The packing of my Trek SC was smooth and I am very pleased with how my bike/wheels fit into the House and the protection afforded. The video was helpful and I am evolving my own method. Plenty of space for other tri related gear and tools. No airline drama/NO extra $$ regarding size and well under weight limits. I highly recommend this product (the only bike case I’ve ever owned). Another trip or two will easily offset the reasonable price of the House… now off to Kona 🙂

I was lucky enough to receive a spot in the 2014 Norseman lottery. Had to figure out a way to not only take my bike, but a ton of gear, to Norway from Chicago. And hopefully not break the bank while doing so. After shopping all the top bike cases… the Armored Hen House looked like the way to go. While I have basic wrenching skills, was a bit concerned with having to break down my bike and build it back up. However, with a little practice, this was really a breeze. Packing the bike was a cinch and frame and wheels were super secure in both bags. Plus, here’s the kicker. Bags are light enough that I was able to pack a TON of gear in both… and have them all come in under weight restrictions for international travel. I’m talking not only bike and wheels, but full range of bike clothing, wetsuit, nutrition (ton of gels, etc), tools, and on and on. Seriously, took the kitchen sink with me. The folks at airline didn’t bat an eye. Not even a question of charging me extra. Plus, bags are small enough that they were easily stowed in rental station wagon when we arrived in Norway. This one trip alone basically paid for the bags. Initially, I had considered selling the bags after trip. No way… I’m going to take my bike with me on a ton of trips in the future. Way too easy with Hen House.

I have taken my bike on two trips now, so basically the case has paid for itself. I am a 60 year old woman with very few mechanical skills, but I was able to break down my bike and put it together with no problems after watching a Youtube video. I have to confess that after the first trip (DFW to Toronto), I did not take the pedals or the rear derailleur off for the return or on the subsequent trip (DFW to Arizona and back.) The bike arrived in perfect condition. No problems at all with American Airlines. I love being able to take the bike with me and not have to use a transport service that leaves me without a bike for several days on both ends of the trip.

This case is the real deal!! The construction of the bag is incredible. I was able to pack lots of my vacation cloths in it also. Used it on my trip to Colorado and no questions asked, even at a small airport terminal. Where every bag was check by an airline employee. It’s passed the test for me. It will pay it’s self of very soon!

This is my second Armored Henhouse. My other bike cases are all for sale now. The upgrades to the new edition are really nice. Very sturdy and well done. Flew it twice so it already payed for itself. Very good customer service also. Will continue to recommend this case to all my friends who fly a bike.
